I like them, I like them a lot. It ties in to the "sleeper car" motto of being as modest as possible by also making your car look a little more flush and smooth. My favorite story is from the time a husband upgraded his silver Porsche 997.1 GT3 for a 997.1 GT3 RS in silver with the awful orange accents. He swapped the wheels and took the decals off, just so his wife wouldn't notice he upgraded. Talk about modesty!

Another one I came across was a debadged 997 Turbo S. By itself, the Turbo 'S' is arguably the biggest waste of $25,000 since the invention of that scheme where some Prins tells you he'll give you part of his inheritance if you send over enough money to cover the tax. Anyways, kudos to the owner for being so modest about his $25k over top of the perfectly good enough 997 Turbo.

Yesterday I took dental floss, a hairdryer, and some bug remover to the back of my 996. I love it. At first glance it looked naked, and too yellow, but now after spending the day occasionally looking at the rear, I couldn't imagine any badging there that would look good. So the Porsche didn't quite become a "sleeper car" but it did become slightly more sleek.

OPPO, thoughts on debadging?

I've thought about it but it feels...empty without the badging.

Love debadging. Easiest mod to do too.

I have always like it! Even see some with the manufacture badge removed.

More often then not, I've found debadged cars to be the base models. As if they don't want the world to know they got the cheapest example of that model, cause they ALWAYS make sure to keep the badge that reminds the world it's a BMW or Mercedes. And when it's done to cheaper, unmodified cars, they end up looking like cars out of an advertisement or package label trying to avoid a lawsuit.

But how will all the people know they have a lesser car than me!!??!!

But as a car person I like seeing the badges. That way its easy to spot douchebag is his base model 3 series not using his blinker, opposed to the gentleman driving his 335 m sport.

Not the company badge by the model badge. Atleast that is what I want to do to my car. Just so it looks cleaner.

As a car person, you shouldn't need to read the badge to differentiate from a 328i and 335i M Sport. ;)

Yeah haha, same argument I made for my 996.

But I think 911s should come as 911, 911 Turbo, and 911 Hardcore. Get rid of all the GTS, S, 4, 4S, GTS 4, Targa 4, Targa 4S, etc. It's nuts.

Yes, but it still proved to be a pain to remove the last bits of glue. A damn pain.

Yeah I see your point. But I was thinking more along the lines of high end cars being debadged. As in,... would you do it if you owned an AMG Benzo?

I was more talking about model badge, not manufacturer badge. Gotta keep those Mercedes cross hairs on the hood! Bang! bang! bang! as you drive down the road.

Ha true, in all actuality it just makes it easier to judge them if I know all they wanted was the badge.

Yep. It helps you aim btw.

Besides, no badge sometimes can give a classy look. Just look at the RR Phantom.

But what if I want a 911 with a Semi Removable roof, awd and 400hp instead of 350 :P

Did you use any kind of gunk remover? I remember using some glue remover thing and it worked great. Didn't damage the paint at all

No. What's the point in trying to be "modest" by removing the badges when you have the flashy wheels, bumpers, grille, exhaust etc. that come with a high end car, as you put it? That, to me, is not the definition of a sleeper. To me, a sleeper is a modified 80s Chrysler turbo-van, or a Grand Marquis with an engine swap/supercharger, or the Oklahoma Farm Truck.

When I see debadged, all I think of is that the car was in an accident and replaced with either cheap parts or the beat up parts were just repaired

DE-BADGE ALL THE THINGS!

I have de-badged the last 5 cars I have owned. I think it looks way cleaner that way.

I used more heat and "bug and tar remover" that I bought at my local auto parts shop. It still took lots of elbow grease and one small section the size of a penny I wasn't able to get off. Presumably because the badge had been fixed up at some point in the last 14 years with the wrong type of glue.

in my experience, the asshat operating the beamer is an asshat plain and simple; regardless of the detail being base model or m sport. just today I witnessed a 2014 bmw 550i M sport make a right hand turn from the left turn lane when the light changed at the intersection of S.W. 44th and S. Western. when the light changed from red to green.Naturally there was no law enforcement on hand to do anything about this deplorable menace to public safety

I love de-badging. Why would anyone care to read about your A4 3.0 with Quattro while sitting behind it in traffic? Your V6 Camry? But especially, removing trim levels! S! SE! SEL! GL! GLX! DX! EX! OMG what option package did you get with your Fusion?!? Remember when they used to put "5 speed" or even "Air conditioning" on the back? I say get rid of them all!

Take it off.

All of it.

OFF!

(I adore the pants-on-head craziness of the GT3 RS, though, but I will admit that a) the windshield banner is a step too far and b) silver/orange was a turrible color combo.)
